Money by Rob Moore Financial independence is a desire that is ingrained in most, if not all people in the first world. It's easy to feel like the gap between the money you earn/make and the money you need to live the life you want is just too great. Achieving the goal of wealth and financial independence seems therefore an uphill task that would likely never materialize. What with the too many bills to be paid, unachievable work targets, lack of time to build on new ideas plus many more. Understanding the game is the first step to winning it, as evidence has it that you can’t win a game you don’t understand. If you're not where you want to be in your life with money and wealth, then it's important to "close the gap" - and get on track to creating the success that you want. So how can you win with the book Money? How can you create independent wealth and hold on to it? This inspiring book by self-made multi-millionaire Rob Moore explains the rules of the game, shares simple tricks for managing money better, he details how to create a plan for an ambitious future, and shows you the very best way to become a millionaire - to think and behave like one! Rob Moore is described biographically as a self-made property investor, businessman, entrepreneur, best-selling author, world record holder, speaker, pilot & proud dad, who co-owns 7 companies in property, lettings & finance. This tells you that you are learning from a pro that can mentor you to achieve success in business and life. My take on this book is that it’s a deep dive into the history of money, how it flows and how literally ANYONE in the first world can grow their financial position. My preference was to listen to it on Audible, however the hardback is due out soon. www.audible.com.au/pd/Business/Money-Audiobook The Slight Edge “Unlock your Inner Winner” by Jeff Olsen When a renowned reader and reviewer writes, “I’ve read this, that, and the other…all great books. But if I had to choose one to base my philosophy and skill sets (and consequently my success) upon, it’s this…” then you know you have a great book. Actually, it is more than one reader who has had such a description of the book, “The Slight Edge” by Jeff Olson. They describe it as “not just another personal development book, but an entirely new way of thinking, processing information that enables one to make simple daily choices that would lead to the desired success and happiness. The author isn’t just narrating the story of his discoveries. He is describing a way of creating life-changing dynamics. Decision-making in business is critical and especially the daily decisions. The Slight Edge shows how our daily decisions can be the ultimate key to our success. Olson describes himself as "a perpetual student of personal development," and he is as devoted to health and happiness as he is to personal and financial success. He has worked with a number of companies on sales, marketing and distribution, building three different sales and distribution forces into multimillion dollar organizations from scratch. This serves to confirm that we are dealing with an insider as far as business is concerned. The Slight Edge, someone has written, “is "the key" that will make all the other personal development books and tools that you consume actually work.” Unlock your inner winner with The Slight Edge. My take on this book is that it was pivotal in my mindset shift towards taking daily action for a future goal. It’s too easy to become overwhelmed with massive goals that at the time of setting them seem unachievable. This book helped me settle my mind amongst the chaos of reaching large goals and focus on the daily stuff. Go for No! by Richard Fenton and Andrea Waltz The most empowering word in the world is a “No!” Sounds unbelievable, right? Well people have varied experiences in life that shape their thinking and way of doing things. There are the common experiences where we work towards getting to “Yes”, whether it be in sales, business, relationships, self-growth and improvement. There are some uncommon experiences that speak the opposite. Focusing on how increasing your failure rate can greatly accelerate your movement toward ultimate success! This is what the book, “Go for No!” is about. One review that stands out says, "If you want to take this road less traveled, get a hold of Go for No! Read it, practice it and master it. In time you'll create so much success that people will start asking you how you got so lucky and why everything you do seems to be a success. If only they knew." It is easy to think that is an exaggeration, a marketing gimmick, but a look at other reviews reveals the same trend, meaning that there is something life-changing in this book. The authors of this book, Richard Fenton and Andrea Waltz are described as the “Courage Crafters”, and they describe themselves as “Failure Philosophers” and “Reject-ologists”! What a description! But this confirms that the principles shared in the book aren’t just an imagination of another writer, but tested principles that work. This book, describes how one salesman learns great lessons that change the way he thinks, the way he sells and the way he lives his life. You too will learn these lessons, and there are plenty of them, including, “What it takes to outperform 92% of the world’s salespeople”, “Failing and being a “failure” are two very different things”, “Why it’s important to celebrate success and failure”, “The five failure levels and how to progress through them”, “How to get past failures quickly and then move on” and of course the mind-challenging, “The most empowering word in the world is not yes… it’s NO!” In my opinion this book is a must read. It took me just an hour to read it. A quick and important lesson. I loved it, and have since read it 4 or 5 more times, just when I have some free time. www.amazon.com.au/d/Audible/Go-Yes-Destination-How-You-Get Unshakeable by Tony Robbins and Peter Mallouk When a man, who has coached more than fifty million people from across the globe and is referred to as world’s number one life and business strategist teams up with another man, described as the only man in history to be ranked number one financial advisor in the US for three consecutive years by Barron’s, the outcome can only be the best of the best. Tony Robbins and Peter Mallouk have combined efforts in their book, “Unshakeable” to produce a step-by-step playbook, taking you on a journey to transform your financial life and accelerate your path to financial freedom. No matter your salary, your stage of life, or when you started, this book will provide the tools to help you achieve your financial goals more rapidly than you ever thought possible. Together, they reveal how to become unshakeable—someone who can not only maintain true peace of mind in a world of immense uncertainty, economic volatility, and unprecedented change, but who can profit from the fear that immobilizes so many. Oprah Winfrey and Bill Clinton are some of the people who have penned positive opinions of the book. Through this book, you can identify steps that results in, “Creating peace of mind in a world of volatility.” Whilst the messages are related to US and 401k etc, the lessons and methods are transferrable to any reader in the world. Since reading this book I’ve added Index funds to my investment strategy as I see how simple yet compounding it is. I wish I could get everyone under 30 to read this book, as they’ll realize that there’s no point waiting to invest. Start straight away. Great book with Tony Robbins narrating much of it - Gotta love Tony’s inspiring tone and passion. www.audible.com.au/pd/Health-Personal-Development/Unshakeable-Audiobook The 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris How do you work less and live more? The answer is in this book, “The 4 hour work week”. The author gives the blueprint for whatever dream one has, whether it is escaping the rat race, enjoying high-end world travel, or laying hands on a five-figure monthly income with zero management. The 4 hour workweek is guide to luxury lifestyle design and describes a number of concepts including how Tim went from $40,000 per year and 80 hours per week to $40,000 per month and 4 hours per week; how to outsource your life to overseas virtual assistants for $5 per hour and do whatever you want; how blue-chip escape artists travel the world without quitting their jobs; how to eliminate 50% of your work in 48 hours using the principles of a forgotten Italian economist; how to trade a long-haul career for short work bursts and frequent “mini-retirements”, all important lessons for someone who aims at financial independence and a choice lifestyle. I personally took some fundamental lessons from this book and almost immediately outsourced 2 or 3 tasks that I realized were not worth my own time. I’m now focusing on other areas and as my business and property portfolio grows I’ll be leveraging the time of other talented people to help me focus on the important stuff. An added bonus to my outsourcing meant that I can provide some one in Africa with an additional income and have met a few more lovely people. Hi everyone, whilst it’s Paul writing this blog – its been transcribed from an online video taken whilst PnP were on leave in Canada in August 2017. "We are coming to you from our holiday in the Canadian Rockies. We are here for the beautiful landscapes, the friendly Canadian people and also for the rock and not the sticky type that you can get from Blackpool but the climbable type (see pic). We wanted to take a few moments to share with you a few tips that we’ve found resonate with us about mindset while we have been rock-climbing – we feel that the mindsets really relate to property. Three tips; Tip number 1 is about your team. Whilst I’m on the rock climbing like a superstar (in my head), I need to know I have a team of support. If I didn’t feel that I trusted my team (my belayer) or I had poor communication then I put myself, and my team at risk. With property, as with climbing, you need to make sure you have a team you can trust; has honesty, integrity and good communication, very open communication and most importantly NO BLAME. Where there is blame there is a reduction in progress of the journey. Any problems you encounter are your responsibility. Any annoyances are your perception. Be a problem solver, or have a team that can help you solve the problem. Tip number 2 is about Fear. Fear and the mindset of fear: Sometimes I’ve been on the climbing wall and arrived at a little bit of a hairy scary section and that fear certainly does creep in. It can be debilitating. Fear, yes it’s there to keep us safe but it can also weaken us. What I’ve found really helpful is to ‘take a breath’, a little bit of self-talk at the time and making sure that I put that fear aside (or carry it alongside with me) and shift gears, shift gears in thinking towards a mindset that is completely strategic, problem solving and looking at what the next step is that I need to take to get me through to the next level. Some would say, “shifting from the right brain thinking into the left brain. We’ve both had a few hairy moments on the wall during the Canada trip but with a conscious shift in mindset it really makes a difference to progress. Tip number 3 is using a mentor or coach. We’ve been climbing tougher and tougher routes during the last week or two and whilst on a climb we’ll look over and there’s a guy on a route next to us and it's crazy difficult. There’s a huge overhang, and tiny holds and its well above our current skill level. This guy is nailing it like he’s done it a thousand times. What if WE really want to have a go at it? It looks exciting right, it looks challenging and it looks fulfilling. What would happen if we jumped on that climb at our current skill level? Well, we’d probably get part of the way up and we wouldn’t be able to finish it! So how do we relate this to property? If you are going to get involved in a deal or a strategy that is well and truly higher than your current skill level - make sure you have somebody working with you or alongside you who can guide and support you - somebody who has experience at that level of deal/strategy. Slow and steady progress, I believe is most important, a lot more important. However, if you are going to jump into that big deal (tough climb) make sure you that you have a mentor, a coach or an experienced partner working with you. It could be the difference between success and failure because if you can’t complete that climb (if you can’t complete the property deal), you are going to lose credibility, profit, and confidence and of course will slow your progress. Mistakes and fails are necessary to success. Mitigate the risks by engaging with some one who has ‘been there done that’ One final bonus tip Actually, what we’ve learnt during this last couple of weeks, and the whole reason we are sharing this with you is that we realize that MINDSET IS TRANSFERRABLE. So this mindset in our climbing to do with fear, to do with trust, to do with making sure that you are not blaming each other when something goes wrong. It’s just the same for property investment. Even if you are new to property, there will be some other area in your life where you have already developed a really strong mindset. It might be a musical skill, sporting skill, parenting, baking, anything like that and all you need to do is take that discipline, that focus of learning and progressing step by step, take that mindset you’ve developed and transfer it to the property world and you may find it a lot easier and you might find that you can be a lot stronger. Everybody has a talent inside them-selves - find out what that is and transfer those skills over to property. Thank you for joining us. For those interested in rock-climbing we were at Heart Creek in Canmore – Canadian Rockies for the some of the best climbing in the world. Feel free to connect with us. We are on Facebook, Twitter and please feel free to comment below your thoughts. We really want to hear about your journey. It’s inspiring to read about the successes and challenges of others so we can all grow together. Here's a link to the video taken whilst in the Canadian Rockies https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6BrtCxuwUQ So thank you and have a great day. PnP Podcast By far my favourite app, just because of the access to knowledge it can provide. Getting into business shouldn’t be as difficult as inventing a wheel! So, why try to re-invent?! Those who have “been there, done that” have made it easier for you to learn from them, so that you can also succeed! These great minds in the world of business have shared their time tested, mindset changing, entrepreneurially uplifting and enriching gems on podcasts. How, I love the art of giving! They do too! Honouring the age-old concept of “the more you give, the more you receive,” they have made these podcasts available for you and me - For FREE! Welcome to the podcasts and light your entrepreneurial path. A few of my personal favourites are: 1) The Disruptive Entrepreneur (Rob Moore) 2) Inside Property Investing (UK property investing with Mike Stenhouse) 3) Tim Ferris Show 4) The Tony Robbins Podcast Evernote Ever had some really good ideas come to mind, but because you are busy with other things, you either 'keep it in mind' or write it down on paper to retrieve it later, only to realise it disappeared? life's too hectic to remember that stuff. Well, worry no more. Evernote - “Your second brain” as they call it. Organisation is a critical part of any business. Working smart is a sure way to stay ahead of the pack and achieve more. Evernote helps you get and stay organised throughout your business processes, ensuring that you lose nothing and work smart. Not only for your business but your personal life too! It enables you to take notes, save useful information you come across online and make to-do lists. It also facilitates synching of all things useful automatically between your mobile devices and the computer! I also use One Note for my meeting notes - though admittedly prefer the layout of Evernote - its just a personal choice. You want to declutter your life? Try Evernote. Unless of course if a disorganised and cluttered life pays better! Upwork Business processes can be a daunting task to do and to manage. There are just too many tasks that need to be accomplished at any one time and traditionally you may need to hire locally to assist. Some of these tasks may not really be long term as to require a permanent employee but could be smaller recurring tasks that you wish someone could handle without the hassle of PAYG or fixed employment contracts. Upwork presents an opportunity for you to get the services of professionals in a simple, “get-the-job-done-I-pay” way. Those small, time-consuming jobs that irk you from time to time can be outsourced, leaving you to focus on the big things that you love doing in your business. How does it work? All you need to do is just sign up at Upwork, and follow simple steps to post a description of the job you want done! Then wait for the professionals to send in proposals on how much they will charge you, how they’ll undertake the job as well as their qualifications to do the job! What’s great is that you can interview those whom you’ve picked as possible hires! You hire, the job is done, you review, and pay! Payments go into escrow and you can also pay proportionally as certain project milestones are hit, plus bonuses for a job well done. I’ve used Upwork to complete presentations, research property trends and write up notes from meetings and processes and I’ll continue to use it for writing, planning, PA - Personal Assistance service and VA - Virtual Assistance roles. Professionals on Upwork can do anything ranging from simple data entry, typing, proof-reading, producing reports, data analysis and even architecture drawings! Isn’t it liberating to have someone affordable take care of those nagging jobs so that we can concentrate on the things that matter most in our business – strategy and RGT (revenue generating tasks). If you do choose to use the app, I would suggest starting with small simple tasks as it can take time to build a good reliable team. Not everyone on there is of a super high standard. Also be aware that you’re contracting people from all over the world so ensure you choose the right person from the job. Eg. I wouldn’t select some one with basic English writing skills to write up a blog I’ve captured verbally (just as a simple example). My advice - test the waters. I'm just at the tip of the iceberg of my utilisation of this app - its bloomin' awesome. Unroll.Me Wouldn’t you love a well-organized email! I get the nervous shakes when I see someones email inbox with hundreds or even thousands of unread email. I like to stay on top of my email and I loath cluttered email and spam, so I tend to periodically cull subscriptions that I either no longer require, or the ones that for some reason I've been subscribed without my knowledge/approval. Lets face it, these days, you WILL be subscribed to a mailing list if you contact any business online. I'm ok with that as its so easy to unsubscribe when that business no longer serves my needs. My wife is not so concerned by piles of unread emails. In fact, with her permission I will clear her mail inbox of clutter just so I don't need to see that many unread emails. Not to mention that you can easily miss that important business deal communication! The average online user will have 3 email address, some more, some less. I have 4 email addresses at any one time. One for personal, one for current property deals, one for my Remedial Massage business and one for spam sign ups. (the sites or quick sign ups for free stuff) Thanks to considerate individuals who constantly labour to bring better digital effciency to the rest of us, Unroll.me has appeared on the scene to organize your inbox for you! How does it work? Unroll.me generates for you a list of all the emails you are subscribed to. From the list, you can, with one click, instantly unsubscribe from the unwanted ones, thus reducing what comes to your inbox. You then combine your essential subscriptions into a lovely digest called Rollup. At the time of your choice, every day, the Rollup appears in your inbox. One email with all your subscriptions! Hurray! This enables you to read what you need, when you want, on your terms. CamCard The digital world is here with us, and it is here to stay! There was a time I fancied pulling out my wallet and dishing out the treasured, beautifully done business cards with potential business contacts. Actually, to be honest I never spent much money on business cards, and loath to do so in the days of online communication. Sometimes I would whisk out my wallet and ouch! I am out of the cards! Embarrassing, don’t you think? Very embarrassing even more when the business contact is a VIP! Also it seems that my business cards are never quite as fancy looking as the other guys :) Well, here comes CamCard to the rescue. A revolutionary way to keep your business cards digitally stored. What’s more, you can easily share the business cards instantly. What can you do with a CamCard?
So thats my current 5 fave apps recommended purely from my own experience (I'm not being paid to promote them). There's many more I love to use and could mention. I'd be happy to share them with you. Please feel free to private message me on Facebook or Twitter for a chat. Have fun. Paul |
